Russian Olympic Committee figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze harshly criticized Kamila Valieva as the 15-year-old left the ice after falling twice during her free skate program on Thursday.
"Why did you let it go?" Tutberidze was heard asking Valieva in Russian during the live broadcast of the women's figure skating event.
"Why did you stop fighting? Explain it to me, why? You let it go after that axel. Why?" Tutberidze continued.
A tearful Valieva, who has been embroiled in a doping scandal since her first Olympic event, did not respond to her coach.
The leading skater heading into Thursday's event, Valieva finished in fourth-place after her stunning collapse. The event has been plagued by scandal after it was revealed Valieva failed a drug test before the Olympics.
